Aloha, you strummers of Cool Hand Ukes.
Around 30 if us met on 27th January for our usual, and brilliant jam. Thank you all for a great evening. And a special welcome to a few new faces who joined us…I hope you will join us again.
We visited some loved old songs and also tried several new songs, including Two Little Boys in Blue (not Rolf Harris), Waltzing Bulldog, Should I Stay or Should I Go, and The Last Train to Clarkesville. They all make it into our evolving Book 5.
Big Mass Jam
Parking aside, it seems that the general opinion was that we would like to meet infrequently with our Lewkulele friends for a mass jam, so I will discuss this with Bill, and we might do something in March? We could also repeat last years ukulele picnic in the summertime.
I completely forgot to ask you all about if you would like to do a busk in Lewes High Steet! This is Andy’s brilliant idea, and if there is an appetite for us to do it, we might consider Saturday 26th March (weather permitting). Let’s discuss this next time – if I remember.
Rye Uke Festival
We have now formally entered to play at Rye on 3rd July. We will start thinking about performance songs soon, and more about the event can be read at http://ryeukuleleexperiment.co.uk/rye-ukulele-festival-2016-2/.
Uckfield Performance 3rd February
John Ball has kindly sorted out this performance for us. We are playing at Shaftesbury Court for the residents there. Here is an email from John …
“The address for 3rd Feb is Shaftsbury Court, London Road, Uckfield. TN22 1JT. There are 2 car parks at the address but the largest one is located at the end of Cedars Close. (This is the turning opposite the speed camera on London Road). Shaftsbury Court comprises of 2 blocks of flats with the Lounge in the centre where we will be.
I will suggest that we will be arriving at 7.30 and starting soon after. Probably playing for about 1 hour unless they want more!!!”
So, see you there at 7:30pm, where we can set up quickly and get going for 7:45pm.
Bring your songbooks, the performance book, and a copy of the singalong book on the website to share with our Uckfield friends. And this link shows you a map of Shaftesbury Court. http://www.housingcare.org/downloads/facilities/generated-brochures/16444-shaftesbury-court-uckfield-england.pdf
As promised, I have added You Never Can Tell to the performance book and sent it to Martin to add to our site when he gets an opportunity. The most recent book is dated 28/01/2016 on the footer. The singalong book has likewise been updated. Please bring this new book to Uckfield on 3rd February.
Martin will be bringing some old songs in new keys, and I would like us to try You’re the One That I want and an Old Time Medley (see below). Please note that I have never seen Grease, and will never see Grease, so I may have put the boys and girls down for the wrong parts of the song when I wrote this out – so feel free to help me amend this when we give it a whirl.
And finally, please don’t forget that Laura is holding Spanish dancing lessons at Uckfield Civic Centre at 7:30pm next Thursday, 4th Fenbruary. This first lesson is free.
Love and peace to you all.
