Aloha, you brilliant and beautiful bunch of minstrels. An important update for you all.
On Monday evening Abi received word that the Monday ukulele group had been given notice to quit The Dorset. Abi kindly went down the next day to be told that we too, have been given notice. The landlord states that the ukes have been annoying his regulars, and also the B&B guests.
We have been very lucky to have The Dorset for so long, and they really got us out of a hole when we left the Lewes Arms. Abi and I are bombarding other likely venues with emails, to see what else we can find. At present we are inclined to try and find something in Lewes as it is pretty central from all those of us who travel from Uckfield, Newhaven, Pevensey etc. Finding a pub, and a suitable room in a pub, may be a tall order, but we have contacted several possibles (John Harvey, Elephant and Castle and White Hart) and await to hear back. Abi is going to explore the availability of town centre halls. this may, of course, mean a small charge of £2-3 each whenever we meet, but at least we would not be at the mercy of a landlord!
So, at present, Cool Hand Ukes has no home, and we can’t go back to The Dorset. Abi and I are trying to find a venue that :
– Is in Lewes
– Is a suitable size for our group
– Is available on our Wednesday rotation
– Is near good parking
– Is affordable
We will, of course, keep you in the loop. But if anyone else has contacts or links to Lewes venues, please chase them up and make enquiries.
We have come so far, and have so much fun, that we really want to find a new home for CHUs. If we really cannot find anything suitable in Lewes (bearing in mind there are now 2 uke groups on the market for accommodation) then we will widen the net to the surrounding areas – so again, if you know of somewhere suitable near Lewes, get stuck into them and make enquiries.
Viva Cool Hand Ukes, the home of knicker rock ‘n’ roll.
Love and peace
